Group Therapy Meetings

Meetings (Group Therapy)

Every morning at the Institute self help group meetings are held for recovering addicts. The meetings are based on the NA ( Narcotics Anonymous) system. The meetings are aimed at reinforcing addicts decisions to recover from their dependence by sharing their emotional heartache and experiences with others also by listening carefully and sympathetically to others' pain. Such group therapy is essential to recovery from drug addiction. All institute member participate in the self help meetings run nightly by NA in Maebashi, Takasaki and the catholic church in Fujioka.

Hiroyuki (29) talks about his experiences.

I really appreciated there being a place where I could speak openly and freely about the pain I was suffering in my heart and appreciate others' pain. Before I came to the Institute I didn't listen to others or appreciate their words. I had intense mood swings and judged people immediately. Now I have changed and improved a lot. Before when I used drugs I would get angry about friends' jokes but now I can accept and appreciate them without getting angry. This is thanks to the meetings I believe. I am now more accepting of others and open about my feelings.
